In this session of the Thriving Networks course we have a look at different logics of how money distribution can work in networks. There are two very marked trends and at Greaterthan we have used both. First, there is the DisCO model, which is based on a sort of “value accounting”. This collective - has come up with three types of value and based on those they develop a whole system on how to account for it.

We currently use a system that is embodied and is based on trust in the system and the relationships we have in it. It also decouples remuneration from calculation, which is something we never felt comfortable with. This practice is called the Happy Money Story the goal is to reach a distribution of money all team members are happy with. One of our favourite thinkers, Miki Kashtan works with a similar system, the money pile.

In this video below, Fran will walk us through some more collective money practices you can use in your network. Watch out, all require well thought-through processes and healthy atmospheres!
